When asked what I learned with ERP during Covid, I recapped some important lessons below.
Remote Work is Possible
Yes, many of us can work remotely and be both productive and efficient. I have often heard prior to the pandemic that remote working would just not work. Guess what, it does work. It is working. For me personally, I believe I am even more effective working remotely. I have better equipment and more tools than the office environment provides, I can work as long as I want/need to and whatever hours during the day or night that works best for me. The end result is I work more hours remotely than when I am required to commute to an office.
Collaboration is Key
My experience during Covid has been one of a more collaborative working environment. Working remotely has made it even more necessary than ever to get the right people together for a meeting. It has created more of a sense of teamwork.
Technology Plays a Role
When the circumstances demand remote work, technology plays an important role. In my day-to-day world of Cloud ERP, I see typical small and midsize businesses running on ledgers, spreadsheets, and worst of all, disconnected legacy accounting systems. All of these create silos of redundant or conflicting data. Digitizing those siloes won’t fix the problem. Taking traditional analog processes and making them digital only disguises the dysfunction. For a business to begin to transform (modernize, really, and become fully interconnected), it must become a connected business, one that synchronizes all records, data sources, and systems under a single pane of glass.
Business Must Go On
While I know this pandemic has been catastrophic for some businesses, I see many others that are thriving and continuing to innovate. Those who tackle the challenges head on have the opportunity to not only survive but thrive. Adjusting to remote working, focusing on collaboration, and leveraging technology to connect your business are important points for businesses to consider as they start the new year. 2020 initiated a new way to work and business must go on.
