On November 11, 1918 at 11 in the morning, a ceasefire agreement was signed in Le France Port, putting an end to The Great War. The following year this same day, Armistice Day, became recognized as a national holiday. Armistice Day honored those who had died in the war. Today, we know it as Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is not only about remembering those that weathered the Great War, but about all soldiers in all wars. We remember those who took up arms to fight in the name of freedom, those who fought bravely to uphold our values, and those who died defending our flag and our way of life. Veterans Day is dedicated to remembering the sacrifices that have been made and to thank those who made them. As Americans, we take great pride in our flag and our military. It’s no secret that we hold our freedom very dear to our hearts. We are thankful to the courageous men and women, and we honor their service.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the world stood silent. The Great War ended and heroic men began making their way home. If only they all could have. Freedom never comes free, and in the words of Robert Frost: “Freedom lies in being bold.” So be bold. Be daring. Be courageous. It is often easy to take our freedoms for granted because it is difficult for many to fully understand its cost. Do not take your freedom for granted. Freedom is born from the sacrifices made of our bold men and women.

When MTS President, Tim Morris, was asked his thoughts on Veterans Day, he answered, “My biggest regret in life is never having served our country in the military."

So to all who are serving today, to all that have served in the past, and to those honorable men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice: Thank You. You are bold and never forgotten.
